As we were wandering around the tourist spot we found a Christian church tucked away between the stores. We were surprised to learn that we were in the very spot where the first missionaries established a hospital and church. We felt that God had given us an unexpected gift. We were able to see their museum and displays and find out more about the sufferings of the first English people to bring the gospel to Taiwan. One was almost stoned because of his competition with the native doctors. The old pictures showed them wearing their English clothes in the hot Taiwanese weather. I really was touched by their dedication and the fruit of their labors.
