Welcome to Blessing Hands' blog. I am a mother and housewife that loves China and children. The two interests have come together in serving the children of China who need help with educational needs. I started as a teacher in an English summer camp and got to know the teachers first. When I toured their schools and met their precious students, I could see many needs and decided to try to help. I first started a fund to assist children with tuition, but it has expanded into a 501(c)(3)public charity granting money for textbooks and school supplies for primary school and lower middle school students and tuition for older students.

Thanks Letters and Gifts Have Come from China

Liang Youfen has sent the most beautiful beaded thank you gift. It is all handmade and came with thirteen beaded handmade necklaces and bracelets. She must have spent hours making her gift. The letter that accompanied the gift was lovely too. She sent it to celebrate Thanksgiving and thank us for the help that she has received from Blessing Hands. It took until January for us to get it.

Thanksgiving 2007 2007

Thank you for your lovely letter and thanks. I appreciate you and enjoyed hearing from you. I am glad that you have learned about Thanksgiving. This year our family had a great thanksgiving. My two sons and their wives came to my father’s home in Winchester, Tennessee to celebrate his 96th birthday that happened to fall on Thanksgiving weekend this year. He is in great health and still drives his car and mows his yard. He is getting a little unsteady on his feet and has taken to a cane to help him walk, but otherwise he is doing fine.

My brother also came with his son the day after Dad’s birthday. I also got to see my aunt who is 96 also and my cousins and her great grandchildren. We had a big turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and another big dinner with coconut cake for my father’s birthday two days later. My daughters-in-laws helped to cook and my sons took over the clean up duties. Everyone helped and had fun playing cards or games together. We took some healthy walks around the farm, and David my husband enjoyed playing with the young cousins.

The kids had a table of their own in the kitchen.

I was especially thankful this year for the harvest we had from our Blessing Hands Farm. This was a bad year for corn because of drought. Even in a year of drought our farm was more profitable than last year and more profitable than the other farms that our farmer also farms. We rent our farm out to a younger farmer and get one third of the crop. We had to pay much more for fertilizer this year and feared that we would get no profit. Thankfully the farm produced even in drought.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for harvest, and I am thankful both for what grows in the ground and for the growth in you Blessing Hands students. I keep hearing about good grades, awards, and volunteer projects. I am especially glad that you are passing on your blessings by blessing others.

Blessings and Joy,
